Dorothy Phan, Allied Universal® Human Resources Director for Organizational Development
For Dorothy Phan, the key differentiator giving modern organizations a strategic advantage is the diversity of its workforce, not the technology it uses.
“An organization that sees, appreciates and is inclusive of different backgrounds, perspectives and ideas will be more progressive and effective,” she said. “A company’s success depends on its ability to leverage diversity of thought to innovate and improve.”
Dorothy joined Allied Universal® in early 2021 as a Human Resources Manager to focus on optimizing HR systems and processes. Nine months later, she was promoted to her current role as HR Director for Organizational Development where she and her team develop and implement HR metrics and dashboards that create efficiencies.
“We always start our approach by keeping different end users in mind to ensure our solutions meet business and operational needs,” Dorothy said.
During her time at Allied Universal, Dorothy has seen the company attract better talent that’s more creative, is better able to serve our clients and is more reflective of the communities we serve. She has seen firsthand that working with diverse teams helps challenge how different members approach problem solving and collectively develop more innovative solutions.
“Developing a sense of inclusion is a day-to-day activity that requires intentional effort. I try to foster this through learning more about the team and who they are as a person beyond their title or job description,” Dorothy said.
