SANTA ANA, Calif. – December 18, 2020 -- Allied Universal®, a leading security and facility services company in North America, recently won two coveted platinum ‘ASTORS’ Homeland Security Awards from American Security Today Magazine for outstanding security work for Miami International Airport (MIA) and the Port of Houston.

The Annual ‘ASTORS’ Awards, now in its fifth year, is the preeminent U.S. Homeland Security Awards Program, highlighting the most cutting edge and forward-thinking security solutions coming into the market today.

Under the Best Airport/Aviation Security Program, Allied Universal received the platinum ASTORS award on behalf of MIA.  In 2008, Allied Universal assumed the role of security partner and provider of MIA. The company is the largest provider of internal security services at MIA and has established a sound working relationship with multiple MIA partners and takes pride in the agency’s reputation of professionalism, competence, and integrity of operations.

“Today, the United States is focusing on protecting public and commercial spaces, as well as security networks and they are calling on innovative companies like Allied Universal to help them do so,” according to Tammy Waitt, co-founder and editorial director of American Security Today Magazine.

Under the Best Maritime/Seaport Security Program, Allied Universal received the platinum ASTORS award on behalf of the Port of Houston. Since the Port of Houston is the largest bulk cargo facility in North America, it comes with several challenges and threats, and Allied Universal’s Security Professionals are on the front lines in deterring and detecting narcotics, counterfeit goods, and human trafficking. Additionally, cybersecurity threats have grown exponentially over the past three years, and Allied Universal’s security team are responsible for managing the systems which provide clearance and access control for visitors and employees of the Port of Houston.

“We are truly proud that both the MIA Aviation Security Program and the Port of Houston have been recognized as being on the cutting edge of implementing advanced security solutions in order to increase safety at the airport and within the port,” said Robert Wheeler, Vice President, Aviation/Maritime Operations, Allied Universal.
