As part of the Downtown Ambassador Program, Allied Universal “ambassadors” assist visitors navigating downtown Orlando and help connect those experiencing homelessness with much-needed services.
Recently, an ambassador’s report of a simple interaction with an unhoused veteran caught the eye of the area’s housing and homelessness manager because there are numerous resources available to veterans.
It was discovered that a housing resource had been unsuccessfully trying to locate the veteran to discuss available housing. The veteran’s caseworker and all Allied Universal ambassadors were alerted to reach out immediately if they encountered the veteran.
Late one recent Friday evening, two ambassadors located the veteran. They worked together to set an appointment for the veteran to meet with his caseworker and by Monday afternoon the veteran was successfully housed.
